**Interactive Architecture Project Atlas Website — Custom Web Application**
I am looking for a designer/developer (or small team) to build a custom website for an architecture and design practice. This is not a standard portfolio website — it is an interactive project atlas where projects are explored spatially and conceptually rather than through lists or grids.
## Project Overview
The website will function as a navigable field of projects organized around ideas and themes. Projects, writing, and research will be interconnected through keywords and filters, allowing users to explore the work in a non-linear way.
The main interface is a **Project Field** — a large scrollable spatial layout where projects appear as thumbnails positioned according to idea clusters (urban, typology, material, system, etc.). The layout is stable and behaves more like a landscape or map than a gallery.
Users can:
* Select categories
* Scroll through the project field
* Filter projects by program, status, location, year, and ideas
* Open project pages as overlays
* Navigate between related projects via keywords
* Navigate to blog/idea pages connected to projects
* Continue exploring without returning to the homepage (circular navigation)
This project is closer to building an **interactive interface or map** than a traditional website.
## Key Features
* Spatial project field (not a grid)
* Projects positioned by idea clusters
* Filter system that reorganizes layout locally
* Anchor projects that remain fixed
* Overlay project pages
* Blog posts connected to projects via keywords
* Related projects system
* Smooth animations and transitions
* Responsive design
* CMS for projects, blog posts, keywords, and metadata
* Ability to handle many images efficiently
* Performance-focused implementation
* PDF generation system for project sheets and portfolios from CMS content
## PDF / Document Generation
The website should also allow generating print-quality PDFs from project data using predefined templates. This includes:
* Single project PDFs
* Selected projects portfolios
* Filter-based portfolios (e.g., Housing Projects)
* Standard page templates with images, drawings, text, captions
* High-resolution image export
* Downloadable/shareable PDFs
The website should function not only as a website but also as a **content archive and publishing system**.
## Technical Expectations (Open to Suggestions)
Likely technologies may include:
* Modern JavaScript framework (React / Next.js or similar)
* Interactive layout / visualization (D3.js or similar)
* Animation library (GSAP, Framer Motion, etc.)
* Headless CMS (Sanity, Strapi, Contentful, etc.)
* HTML-to-PDF or similar PDF generation system
* Image optimization and performance strategies
The exact tech stack is open for discussion.
## Who I Am Looking For
I am looking for someone who:
* Has built interactive or non-linear navigation websites
* Has experience with data visualization, maps, or interactive interfaces
* Is comfortable working with CMS and relational data
* Understands performance optimization with many images
* Can collaborate on interface behaviour and system logic
* Is interested in building something unusual, not a template site
If you have built interactive websites, data visualizations, digital archives, or experimental interfaces, please share examples.
## Project Scope / Phases
The project will likely be built in phases:
Phase 1:
* Homepage and category interface
* Basic project field
* Project pages
* CMS setup
* Filters
* Related projects
Phase 2:
* Advanced clustering / layout behaviour
* Blog integration
* Keyword navigation
* Performance optimization
Phase 3:
* PDF generation system
* Ideas graph visualization
* Advanced relationships and recommendations
Timeline and scope can be discussed.
## When Responding
Please include:
* Links to interactive websites you have built
* Technologies you would use for this project
* How you would approach the spatial project field
* Estimated timeline
* Whether you work alone or with a team
