AI Automation Engineer

About the role
We are building a small suite of internal “AI agents” that turn our operational data into clear, reviewable recommendations our teams can act on every day.
We are looking for a hands-on freelance engineer to design, build, and maintain these agents end to end on our existing stack: data models and queries in Azure SQL, orchestration and delivery in n8n, and reasoning via Azure OpenAI.
Key responsibilities
• Translate a business goal into a working agent: data model, recommendation logic, workflow, and review interface.
• Write clean, performant T-SQL (window functions, aggregation, indexing, materialization) against large data tables.
• Build and debug n8n workflows, including function (JavaScript) nodes, SQL nodes, LLM nodes, and webhooks.
• Engineer and tune prompts for consistent, valid, business-aligned output.
• Deliver complete, ready-to-run scripts and importable workflow files; debug to root cause rather than patching symptoms.
• Document each agent’s logic, data objects, and decisions so the work is maintainable across sessions and people.
Required skills & experience
• n8n: solid hands-on experience building non-trivial workflows (self-hosted a plus), including webhooks, function nodes, and external service nodes.
• SQL Server / Azure SQL: strong T-SQL — views, stored procedures, window functions, query tuning, and working with large warehouse tables.
• LLM integration: practical experience with Azure OpenAI or the OpenAI API, including prompt engineering and structured (JSON) outputs.
• JavaScript: comfortable writing and debugging logic inside n8n function nodes.
• HTML / CSS: able to produce clean, email-client-safe HTML emails and simple interactive web forms.
• Data modeling: able to design a sound data layer from raw source tables and reason about grain, keys, and joins.
• Working style: independent, detail-oriented, communicates clearly, and delivers tested, ready-to-run artifacts.
Nice to have
• Experience with Zenoti, SAP, or similar retail/salon/ERP data sources.
• Power BI or other BI dashboarding.
• Familiarity with retail, beauty, or multi-branch operations. Show More
