Toronto Hustle Simulator - Text-Based Browser Game

Project Description

I need a lightweight, responsive life-simulator that runs entirely in the browser yet feels at home on a phone screen. Instead of 3-D graphics, every interaction will be handled through a clean, text-based, menu-driven UI optimized for quick taps.

Core gameplay revolves around career progression: players choose jobs, earn promotions, and watch their lifestyle evolve. To keep each session fresh, the game must pull real-time data from public APIs—specifically live Toronto weather and transit disruption status—to influence daily economic events and player stats on each turn.

Key deliverables:
• Responsive web app (desktop & mobile UI layout) with local client-side saving (LocalStorage). No login accounts or cloud backend required.
• Modular career system with simple metrics (Funds, Debt, Clout, and Sanity).
• API layer that fetches current Toronto weather and transit data and converts them into in-game modifiers.
• Event engine capable of injecting random, text-based incidents tied to player stats and real-time API feeds.

Acceptance criteria: smooth play on mobile Chrome and Safari; first load under 3s on 4G; and all external calls gracefully fail over to standard text arrays if an API endpoint times out.

Feel free to suggest the best stack—React, Vue, or a lightweight vanilla setup—as long as it stays fast and maintainable. Show More
